Ingredients
- 125 gr unsalted butter (cold)
- 450 gr self-raising flour
- 2 teaspoon baking powder
- 50 gr icing sugar
- 1 pinch of salt
- 150 ml buttermilk
Method
- Preheat the oven to 220 C
- Cut the butter into cubes
- Mix the flour, baking powder, icing sugar and salt in a bowl
- Add the butter and mix with your fingertips until a coarse dough is formed
- Add the buttermilk and knead briefly into a cohesive dough. Optionally add an extra tablespoon of buttermilk if the dough is still a bit too dry
- Dust the counter with some flour
- Roll out the dough with the rolling pin into a piece of 1 cm thick
- Cut out circles with the help of the cookie cutter or glass
- From the remaining dough, always form a 1 cm slice and repeat the cutting until the dough is finished
- Place the scones on a baking tray covered with parchment paper and brush with some buttermilk with the pastry brush
- Bake in the oven for approx. 12 minutes until golden brown and done
Serving tip
- Serve the scones with jam of your choice or any other topping of your choice
