 Ingredients

  • 125 gr unsalted butter (cold)
  • 450 gr self-raising flour
  • 2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 50 gr icing sugar
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 150 ml buttermilk

Method

  • Preheat the oven to 220 C
  • Cut the butter into cubes
  • Mix the flour, baking powder, icing sugar and salt in a bowl
  • Add the butter and mix with your fingertips until a coarse dough is formed
  • Add the buttermilk and knead briefly into a cohesive dough. Optionally add an extra tablespoon of buttermilk if the dough is still a bit too dry
  • Dust the counter with some flour
  • Roll out the dough with the rolling pin into a piece of 1 cm thick
  • Cut out circles with the help of the cookie cutter or glass
  • From the remaining dough, always form a 1 cm slice and repeat the cutting until the dough is finished
  • Place the scones on a baking tray covered with parchment paper and brush with some buttermilk with the pastry brush
  • Bake in the oven for approx. 12 minutes until golden brown and done

Serving tip

  • Serve the scones with jam of your choice or any other topping of your choice
